29 AprHow important is it to register multiple domains like me.com, me.net, me.org?

A multiple domain question:

I heard some advice recently and it didn’t sound like particularly good advice. The person said that if you are registering a domain name (like www.me.com) you should also register www.me.net and www.me.org. This seems like an unnecessary expense. As long as you get the .com domain, what are the advantages to getting the same .net and .org and are those advantages worth the cost?
In this particular case, there isn’t much worry about a competitor opening up a scam site like the disney one.

28 AprHost multiple forums under one domain?

A multiple domain question:

Would it be possible to make it so that I can host multiple forums under one domain?

For instance, if I had www.example.com

Each forum will be in www.example.com/forum1, www.example.com/forum2, www.example.com/forum3, www.example.com/forum4.

Is there a way so that I can have the directories redirect to a parked domain?

Like this:

www.example.com/forum1 = www.randomparkeddomain1.com/forums
www.example.com/forum2 = www.randomparkeddomain2.com/forums
www.example.com/forum3 = www.randomparkeddomain3.com/forums
www.example.com/forum4. = www.randomparkeddomain4.com/forums

I want to make it so that I can host multiple different sites under one domain, if possible.

27 AprPointing a domain name to multiple servers?

A multiple domain question:

Hi,

I have just purchased a domain name that I need to point to multiple servers but not quite sure how I go about this?

I have currently pointed servers to NS1 and NS2.softlayer.com where my primary server is.

Basically I want my primary server to run server1.mydomain.net
Then I want to gain access to a few other servers and run server2.mydomain.net etc etc. Servers will be in different geographic locations.

How do I go about doing this? I need it so that if server 1 fails on me, the the other ones are still accessable?

P.S. I dont suppose its as simple as pointing to other name servers, and applying the seperate subdomains (i.e. server2.scs, server3.scs)?

26 AprHow do I set up multiple(30) email accounts using only 1 domain(outlook)?

A multiple domain question:

I want to set up 30 or 40 email accounts for a project I am doing. I want them to all be on the same domain so it will be easier receiving feed back. Do I need to be in outlook express and then make the accounts or create accounts and then put them in outlook? What is the easiest way to do this? Also, are there any negative consequences to having that many email accounts, will it hurt my computer? thanx!

24 AprModifying htaccess file for multiple domains?

A multiple domain question:

Does anyone know how I can get multiple domain names to redirect to new directories? Right now all my domain names go to the same default directory page and file structure, but I want them to have their own separate file directories.

I think I can modify the htaccess file to do this. I’m not sure the "Redirect" command would work, because I think it only works within one domain structure. What else can I do?

21 AprSession persisting over multiple domains?

A multiple domain question:

I have a hosting account which permits me to host as many domain names as I want to simply by aliasing each domain name to point to a folder on the hosting account. If I was to start a session on the main domain say "maindomain.com" and redirect a user to another domain on the same hosting account say "anotherdomain.com", would the session still exist? Any tips will be appreciated.
