23 MarWhat to Do When I want My Domain to Get Hosted

FAQ|Multi Domain Hosting

A frequently-asked query:

I have some questions about having my domain hosted:
1. Am I allowed to add things like adds from google to get money?
2. Do I need to get the web hosting as well to have multiple sites on my page or is there another way. If there is, how?
3. Can they cancel the account at any time?
4. I signed up for the .99 deal, are there any other charges, such as a monthly fee or anything of that nature?

Thanks.

Multi Domain Hosting

A frequently-asked query:

Hi, I am looking for a web host which would best fit for a web designer.

I am looking for unlimited domains (having the ability to create multiple domains and providing my own web hosting for my own price through my web design site), unlimited bandwidth and whatever else would be best for me to have my own Web Designing business.
Any additional information would be great because I’m very new to this so I’m not exactly sure how everything works. Thank you!

23 FebWhat to Do When You Encounter Connection Has Timed Out

FAQ|Multi Domain Hosting

A common question:

Over the weekend I formatted my harddrive and reinstalled Windows. For the last few days since I have been unable to access several domains, that I own and have hosted on the same server. When I try and access any of my domains with either Firefox or I.E. I get “The Connection Has Time Out”. I also can’t access email through Thunderbird for any of the same domains. I don’t have a router, and I have already reset my cable modem multiple times. I also shut my computer down every night, so it gets a reboot all the time.

I have researched this and researched this and can’t seem to find out what the problem. I could access my email and domains before the format and reinstall of Windows.

Any help trying to diagnose this problem would be helpful.
Solved. Wasn’t my ISP. It was my webhost. For some odd reason their server had me banned. They quickly cleared it up and I can get email and see my domains again.

18 FebCan I edit an existing non wordpress site with wordpress? Best CMS or PTP?

A typical question:

One of my clients has a godaddy site that is hosted through amazon. it was obviously net setup so it can easily be edited from various locations by multiple people. I’d rather not tear down and start from scratch. I am currently Using SmartFTP to login to the site, and using Dreamweaver to edit and update the live site. Am I making things more complicated for myself? Could I just download WordPress dashboard and login to my domain, or what? I don’t mind using the dreamweaver, but I’d like to put a program on the Client computer where they can make minor changes, without me having to but adobe products on their PC. And help, know how, detailed tutorials greatly appreciated.

17 FebApache/.htaccess help (mod_rewrite)?

A common question:

I have this code so I can have multiple sites on one server. It’s in my htaccess.

Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/jgames/
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^jgames.us.to
RewriteRule (.*) /jgames/ [L]

Its saying that if you’re visiting the site from the domain ‘jgames.us.to’, go to directory ‘/jgames/’
But there are two problems with it. One, it mostly works, but does not display my css,

and two, if you click a link it still shows the index page.

You can go to jgames.us.to to see the problem, and comic.us.to/jgames to see the original site.

I really need this fixed! Thanks!

14 FebWhich is the best webhost?

A typical query:

I need to know which is the best webhost in terms of reliability and uptime, I need a webhost that has: at least 50 GB of space, Unlimited Domains, at least 100 GB of bandwidth. I also need one that has multiple plans so if i use up all the space or use up too much bandwidth i can upgrade it. I need one with a option of dedicated hosting when the site gets to busy, and one more thing i need at least 10 MySQL databases
Also it has to be a paid host. And nothing that is unlimited everything because that is serious overselling, it can have like unlimited bandwidth or MySQL databases, but not everything unlimited because there is no such thing as unlimited they have to stop me somewhere. Also i was looking at hostgator, has anyone tried that one, and if so is it good.

13 FebCan I forward port 80 to one computer on my network without affecting the others' internet connection?

A common question:

I am going to host a website on a desktop computer connected to a broadband (always on) connection and I read that I need to forward port 80 so that remote computers’ traffic isn’t directed to the other computers on my network. If I forward port 80 to one computer, will the others lose there ability to connect to the internet?

Also, I don’t know if I can ask multiple questions in one, but these are related. How do I associate a domain name I register with, say, GoDaddy, with my home external IP? I also read that you have to use DynDNS because ISPs change your external every so often, but I don’t know that you can use a DynDNS account with a website that isn’t one they already registered i.e. yoursite.theirsite.net.

Thanks

06 FebWhat is the best place to host a website?

A frequently-asked query:

I have had my site with YahooDomains since 2002… but I don’t like the forced changes they are making me adapt to. What is a good site to have host my site? Right now it is under 100mb, without much traffic, nothing really fancy, but it has over 100 pages within it. I need to have multiple email accounts, and I want to have my own domain with email accounts like @mydomainname.com, not @mydomainname.host.com. I want it to be a realiable host. I currently use CuteFTP 4.2 to upload, so if I can keep using it that would also be a plus.

03 FebHelp with stolen images?

A frequently-asked query:

I’m going to be vague about any site that has my images for risk of my images being stolen again.

For the past month, I have been posting my iPod drawings on a image hosting website and then on to an art website. Everything seemed fine until I decided to Google one of my images to see if it was on Google Images. I noticed that not one, but multiple images were stolen from me by this Myspace icon maker site. So I looked to see if they left any credit for them and the only thing I could find was
"We do not claim ownership of images, some images are created by us, some created for us by various designers."
I never created those drawings for their usage.
I then tried to contact them, however they "wrote" their email using an image that was deleted making it virtually impossible to ask them to delete them from the site.
So now annoyed, I Googled ‘THEWEBSITE’ complaints.
Turns out that other people have the same problem. Just no one has done anything.
I have the proof that the images are mine. I still have them on my iPod on which I drew them. I have made my image hosting albums private to prevent any future images from being stolen.
I’m currently writing a letter to the domain about it.
But how can I find out when my images where stolen? And is there anything that I can do to show more proof than two sites that have the uploaded images that I uploaded?
